Phi Beta Delta

Phi Beta Delta is an internationally recognized Honor Society for International Scholars. Founded at California State University, Long Beach in 1986, Phi Beta Delta was established as a national organization in 1987. It is the first national honor society dedicated to recognizing scholarly achievement in international education.

 Objectives of Phi Beta Delta

1. To recognize achievement in international educational interchange;
2. To increase the recognition, credibility, and importance of the international experience;
3. To develop a cadre of individuals involved in the international experience;
4. To create a catalyst for international academic-based programming on campus; and
5. To connect individuals on U.S. campuses involved in the international experience. To these goals, our chapter has added an emphasis on recognition of sharing international experience through the promotion of international awareness or service.

 Phi Beta Delta Membership Criteria

Students:
1. Experience as/in one or more of the following:

  • as an international student.
  • study or service abroad, or a similar international experience in the U.S.
  • an international studies or area studies concentrator.
  • an international or foreign area studies major through the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies.

2. Minimum Davidson GPA of 3.15

3. Involvement in extracurricular activities of an international nature on campus or in the community at large

Faculty and Staff
Involvement in significant international endeavors abroad or in the U.S. (e.g., teaching, research, educational exchange, program development, service to international scholars, activities through government or nongovernmental organizations).
