One sentence description of project: In the summer of 2010, I plan to examine the following question: What economic benefit has the 2010 FIFA World Cup had for small, micro and medium sized tourism enterprises in South Africa?

Some effect.

Have you had previous experience abroad? If so, please describe briefly.

Yes, I have travelled on a summer service trip to Nicaragua and an exchange trip to Spain in high school. I have visited family in India on occasion and I was able to visit South Africa once to see where my Mom grew up and where my grandparents are from.

List your involvement with the Dean Rusk International Studies Program and/or other international activities on campus:

I will study abroad during the spring semester of my Junior year.

Note:The Dean Rusk Program will not provide funds for the purchase of technological items that will have a useful life beyond your trip abroad.  For example, you may not use Dean Rusk grant funds to purchase cameras or tape recorders. Do not include these items in your project budget.  If you use grant funds to purchase items of this nature, Davidson College will either take possession of those items or ask you to pay back a sum equal to the purchase price.  If you have questions about whether or not a particular item falls into this category, ask the Dean Rusk Program staff before you submit your proposal.

**Currently there is violence between the minibus/taxi drivers in Johannesburg, as well as targeting of the new public buses making their already limited availability unsafe to use. As reported by the Mail & Guardian and New York Times on 3/25/2009 and 2/22/2010 respectively.
