This is equal to the total amount of project - (Baker stipend + amount requested from Abernethy). It does not account for the amount I intend to apply for from Kemp.

Have you received any previous grants from the Dean Rusk Program? No.

Have you had previous experience abroad? If so, please describe briefly. Yes. I lived in London for 4 months with my family, spent 2 months travelling through Europe, spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica on a high school trip, and spent 3 weeks in Ireland.

Have you already, or do you plan to study abroad while at Davidson? If so, when? I plan to study abroad in Fall 2010, in London.

 What effect would lack of a Dean Rusk grant or an amount less than requested have on your travel plans?

No effect, some effect, or significant effect, depending on the results of my other grant applications. If I am granted a Kemp scholarship as well as my Baker stipend, the lack of a Dean Rusk grant will not affect my plans. If I do not receive money from Bank of America/Kemp, but do receive an Abernethy grant, the lack of a Dean Rusk grant, or a diminished amount, would have some effect, and I would shorten my trip and try to trim my budget. If I do not receive any grants except my Baker Summer Stipend, I will have to remove several weeks from my itinerary.

Note: The Dean Rusk Program will not provide funds for the purchase of technological items that will have a useful life beyond your trip abroad. For example, you may not use Dean Rusk grant funds to purchase cameras or tape recorders. Do not include these items in your project budget. If you use grant funds to purchase items of this nature, Davidson College will either take possession of those items or ask you to pay back a sum equal to the purchase price. If you have questions about whether or not a particular item falls into this category, ask the Dean Rusk Program staff before you submit your proposal.
