Fight Song

Celebrate with school pride in a rousing rendition of the fight song, O Davidson at your next Davidson sporting event or alumni gathering!

O Davidson

O DAVIDSON! YOU ARE THE BEST
OLD COLLEGE IN THE EAST OR WEST.
YOU PLAY A FAIR GAME;
YOU PLAY A SQUARE GAME;
AND YOU WIN IN EVERYTHING.
AND WHEN THE RED AND BLACK MACHINE
IS OUT TO FIGHT AND LOOKING MEAN.
THEN I AM HAPPY AS FOR YOU I SING.

(CHORUS)
O DAVIDSON WE WILL DOWN THEM
DOWN THEM EVERY ONE
COME DAVIDSON, WE WILL CONQUER
ERE THE DAY IS DONE.
DOWN EVERY FOE, THEN,
AS THROUGH THEIR LINES WE RUN;
WIN FOR THE HONOR OF OLD DAVIDSON!

  • HISTORY

The fight song was written by Evelyn Harris Hamilton, Class of 1917.  While a student, Mr. Hamilton was a member of the Eumenean Society. After graduation he attended Union Theological Seminary and the Bible Seminary in New York. He served as a missionary in China, Japan and Taiwan as well as taking interim pastorates in Georgia, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Hamilton wrote the words of the Davidson fight song, "O Davidson." He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by Davidson College in 1962.
