The annotated bibliography, or for some students the literature review, provides a comprehensive record of student research at a point about half-way through the senior thesis. They are due just before Thanksgiving break during the senior year. Depending on a student's individual thesis project, this record, in the form of an alphabetical list (perhaps divided into sections according to some scheme relevant to the project's needs) has four distinct audiences: the thesis author herself or himself, the major advisors, the faculty members on the CIS faculty advisory committee, and the CIS director. Annotated bibliographies should be intelligible to all in that group, even those not directly in the student's field. The annotated bibliography or literature review serves as an important working document, a record of the student's reading and evaluation of the work of other scholars, and as a statement of direction and progress.
