With more than 150 Davidson and Third Party Provider opportunities to choose from, it can be a bit overwhelming to decide which Study Abroad program is right for you and your major...this page is here to help!

Many political science majors study abroad; there are a wide range of programs that can fit into the major.

It is not necessary to transfer credit from your abroad program, but many programs do offer courses that will allow you to transfer credit. The political science major is flexible; earning political science credits should be one of the criteria you consider when choosing a program, but it needn't dictate what program you choose. If you are worried that studying abroad will make it difficult for you to finish your major requirements on time, consider applying for the Davidson in Washington program, which allows students to earn two Political Science course credits during the summer.

If you are hoping to receive credit toward a political science major from courses taken abroad, here is what you need to do.

1. BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE STUDY ABROAD OFFICE'S THE ADVICE AND REQUIREMENTS. Ditto the Registrar.
2. Pay attention to the course offerings in the programs you are considering.
3. Select courses that have political content. If you're not sure whether a course is a good candidate for political science credit, email a link to the course description to the department chair or your major advisor. We can tell you whether the course is likely to receive credit.
4. SAVE YOUR COURSE MATERIALS, especially the syllabus from each course. You should also save paper assignments if you can.
5. When you return to campus, submit your materials to the Registrar for approval for college credit.
6. Once the Registrar has approved your credits, bring your materials, including the Registrar's approval document, to the department chair for assessment for departmental (major) credit. If you believe a course should count toward a particular subfield please make a note of that.
7. The chair will notify you and the Registrar as to what, if any, credit your work will receive within the major.
