How many students receive merit-based scholarships each year?
Approximately 10 percent of each enrolling class will be offered a merit-based scholarship.
On what bases are they awarded?
Scholarship recipients are students recognized for those skills and abilities marked as key to the vitality of the Davidson experience - outstanding academic and personal skills, leadership ability, commitment to service, and talent in the arts, academic life, and athletics.
How can I be considered for scholarships at Davidson?
Merit-based scholarships are offered primarily on the basis of the strength of students' applications for admission. Early Decision and Regular Decision candidates are evaluated equally.
Some scholarship processes begin with a nomination by your school, some by internal candidate selection. In the case of interest or talent specific scholarships, selection is also based on the outcome of an audition, writing sample, portfolio review, departmental review of the Special Application, and/or an interview.
What is the award range of merit-based scholarships at Davidson?
Awards range from $500 to full cost of attendance.
Are scholarships at Davidson offered for all four years?
Yes. All merit-based scholarships are renewable for a student's four years at Davidson, provided grade point average, progress-toward-degree requirements, and any award-specific requirements are met.
What if I win an outside scholarship?
Your outside scholarship will be administered on the basis of the scholarship's specific requirements (i.e. used for specific costs or activities, or for specific years). If you are not receiving need-based aid, it will most likely be credited directly to your Davidson account. If you are receiving need-based aid, since Davidson meets your full demonstrated financial need, your aid package will be adjusted to accommodate additional funds.
