Mid-career faculty embarking on a new research program involving undergraduates or taking a new direction with their current research may apply for a course-load reduction any time after their second post-tenure year. Interested faculty should submit a proposal to be reviewed by the program director, the VPAA, and the chair of their department.
The proposal should include: - justification for the course load reduction
- description of activities during the release time
- expected outcomes or measures of success
Faculty applying for a competitive, external research grant, which includes collaborative research with undergraduates, may apply for a course release in a semester during the period when the grant will be active, if funded.
Application must be made six weeks before the deadline for the grant proposal submission and after consultation with the departmental chair and the VPAA. Approval of the request for course-load reduction is contingent on obtaining the grant.
Applications should include: - summary of the proposed research
- justification for the course load reduction
- expected outcome of the proposed research
